  • In 2015, Jen Welter became the first woman to serve on an NFL coaching staff. She served as a linebackers coach during ttraining camp for the Arizona Cardinals. She outlines her journey of getting to that point in her new book, Play Big: Lessons in Being Limitless from the First Woman to Coach in the NFL.

I spoke with Welter about her unorthodox path to the NFL, what kept her motivated in getting there, and the response she received from players and coaches during her time with the Cardinals. You can listen to the interview here.

  • *The Charlie Fisher Radio Show airs 6:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. on Monday nights on Classic 103 102.7 FM WJEQ during the WIU Football season. It is hosted by the Voice of the Leathernecks, Scott Kornberg.

Last night's edition of the show featured a recap and breakdown of the thrilling 49-30 victory over Missouri State. The game took a bizarre twist, with a 99-minute severe weather delay halting play with 5:53 remaining in the fourth quarter. Coach Fisher discussed how his team responded to those circumstances and pulled away late for the win.

Later in the show, Scott sat down with Leatherneck senior defensive tackle Mick Nelson. They talked about Mick's career at Western, and his Minnesota roots. Scott and Coach Fisher then capped off the show with a preview of Saturday's North Dakota State game.

You can listen to last night's show here

  • A Saturday afternoon game at Hanson Field quickly turned into a Saturday night affair between Western Illinois and Missouri State. A 99-minute severe weather delay pushed the completion of the game until 8:11 p.m. The Leathernecks were able to prevail, winning 49-30 to improve to 5-1, and 2-1 in Missouri Valley Football Conference play.

I spoke with WIU Head Football Coach Charlie Fisher about the win, as he went into detail about the weather delay and how it came at the perfect time for WIU. We also looked ahead to North Dakota State, who Western will face on Saturday. You can listen to the interview here
