The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported five hepatitis A cases in east-central
Illinois last month. So far, 2018 has seen 69 cases statewide.
 
IDPH Director Nirav D. Shah urges homosexual men, homeless individuals and drug users to get
a hepatitis A vaccination.
 
Symptoms:
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Dark urine
- Clay-colored bowel movements
- Joint pain
- Jaundice
 
IDPH is currently working with several health departments covering 40 counties to make
hepatitis A vaccines easily assessable.
