The Macomb-Western Holiday Basketball Tournament proved to be challenging for the Bombers as they face familiar foes and some highly ranked teams.
No matter the challenge the Bombers made sure to stay 10 toes down throughout each game in the tournament. A highlighted player for Macomb is senior Sam Allen as he made the All-Tournament Team at the Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament. Allen averaged 20.5 points within the four games. Allen scored a total of 82 points in four games. As a result, he was placed third amongst all the players in the tournament.
During their first matchup against Lewistown, the Bombers gained their second win of the season behind Allen’s 18-point performance. In the second matchup against their rivals Farmington, Allen put up a career-high of 23-points. Unfortunately, the game ended in a Bomber loss, but that didn't break their competitive spirit. That placed the Bombers in the fifth-place bracket where they faced Pittsfield. Allen with an outstanding night scored 22 points with 8-10 shooting and 8-8 from the line. Allen’s performance led the Bombers to victory over Pittsfield. Lastly, Allen scored 19 points in a loss to Liberty which put them in 5th place in the tournament.
“It’s been really fun to play on this court, play against some great competition, and be with my teammates,” said Allen. “We get to play a lot of teams that we already play or that are in our conference, so it’s good exposure for us because there are a lot of good teams here. We just have a lot of fun with it.”
Looking ahead, the Bombers move down to Class 2A, making postseason basketball all the more exciting for Macomb. The Bombers will look to improve their record as the season goes forward. Their next game will be against Kewanee on Tuesday (Jan 27) at 7:00 pm.
