Emotions were running high last night, February 4, as Macomb took on United Township
for their annual senior night tradition. United Township got out to a hot start, and never
looked back as they took this one by a final score of 85-67.
United got an extremely impressive performance out of senior center, Brandi
LaFountaine. LaFountaine went off for 30 points, and was a physical, imposing
presence inside all game. United got another nice game from junior guard Jasmine Bell,
who provided 18 points to the United cause.
On the Macomb side of things, the game began with the celebrations of the careers of
Emma Heuer, Ericka Dawson, Destiny Reid, and Reagan Johnson. The Bombers were
led in scoring in this one by junior forward Savana Kump, who put up 16 points. Kump is
one of six juniors on the team, so the hope will be that these six girls will be able to lead
this team back to prominence. The Bombers also received solid farewell performances
from seniors Heuer and Dawson, who scored 15 and 14 points respectively. It will be
interesting to see how Macomb replaces the scoring and overall talent that Dawson
brought to the floor on a nightly basis.
Despite the disappointing end to the season, I believe there are many positives to take
away from the year. In particular, I have been impressed by the young, up-and-coming
talent that exists on the Bombers’ roster. The likes of Avery Rexroat and Riley Creasey
established that as underclassmen, they will be a huge part of the near future for this
program, and that is something Bomber fans everywhere should be excited to hear. We
all will be looking forward to seeing the adjustments made by Head Coach Zach Keene
and watching how this team develops.
